Announcing The Thing 2024 – April 27 & 28

The premier foam dodgeball championship in North America is back for year three! The top teams from the USA and Canada will be coming together to compete for the most prestigous championship in North America.

We will be building off last year’s success as a two day event, this year we are expanding the number of teams from 20 to 24. The tournament will take place in Seattle, WA on April 27th and 28th. As usual, our championship will take place at the incredible Academy Sports Center in Lynnwood, WA.

The aim of this invitational tournament is to bring together the best club dodgeball teams on the continent to create the highest level of competition anywhere. There will be Women’s and Men’s Divisions, and six invites extended to teams from Canada, and six extended to teams from the USA for each division. Invite information can be found below. The Venue

We are so proud to be The Thing at the best dodgeball venue in the region. The Academy Sports Center is a state of the art volleyball training facility with six full-size WDBF courts, lighting optimized for athletic competition, and vaulted ceilings to give even more room for incredible play.

Event Details:

Day 1: Saturday, April 27th – Round Robin, 8am-7pm
Day 2: Sunday, April 28th – Knockout, 9am-6pm
Dress Code: Players must wear matching team jersesy with numbers on the back.

Rack Attack – 2023 Women’s Division Champions
Outsiders – 2023 Men’s Division Champions

Tournament Format:

Rules: WDBF Rules
Ball Type: 7″ Foam
Women’s Divsion: 12 teams, 6 American & 6 Canadian
Men’s Division: 12 teams, 6 American & 6 Canadian
Round Robin: 20min Matches, each team will play six RR matches
Knockout Bracket: 40min Matches, Single Elimination + Placement matches.
Placement Matches: This year we will be including 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th place matches.
Reffereeing: Teams will be given reffing assignments. Teams are required to provide four referees for each of their reffing assignments.

Host Hotel:

We’ve partnered with the Lynnwood Courtyard Marriot to be a host hotel for The Thing 2023. It’s a 10min drive from the venue, near groceries, and restaurants. They’ve got us a deal for singles and doubles for $139/night. The deadline to book is Feb 22nd. Share with your teammates and fan clubs! You can book a room here.

After Party at Just Chill Pub & Grill (Saturday, 6pm)

We’ll be headed to Just Chill Pub & Grill after the Round Robin on Saturday. It’s just 7min from the venue, and you’ll be just fine your athletic gear. Just Chill has is also sponsoring our RR spirit awards. So if you bring the spirit, you might just have some free drinks coming your way.

Invites:

The aim of this invitational tournament is to bring together the best club dodgeball teams on the continent to create the highest level of competition possible. Invites will be sent to captains of eligible club teams that compete together regularly in the USA Premier Tour or the Dodgeball Canada Provincial / National tournaments. 

Final rosters at The Thing 2024 must contain at least 4 regular members from the qualifying event. If your team cannot meet the limit of rostered members, please contact the organizers. We may ask that you decline your invitation. Exceptions may be granted to qualifying captains who have formed new regular teams this season.

We would love to host your team at The Thing 2024, but we need to make sure all teams have time to plan on attending. To ensure that this is the case, your invitation is valid until January 10th, 2024. Please register your team here, or reply letting us know you cannot make it. On January, 11th we will be extending another wave of invitations to the teams next in line.

After Party & Lodging:

We are working on a hotel sponsors and after-party spot. Our goal will be to have the hotel, venue, and afterparty all within 10min of eachother. If you want to book your own lodging, we reccomend getting it near the venue, address above.

Parking:

The venue has 100 parking spaces. Please carpool and consolidate whenever possible to make room for family, friends, and spectators to participate in the event.

Where is your team from?
Roster(Required)
Please list all of your teammates. Rosters must contain at least 4 players who played on your roster at the qualifying event. Please notify orgaizers if you have questions. Rosters are allowed to have up to 10 players.
Do any of your teammates need lodging?
We have local players with couches, guest bedrooms, and sleeping pads to spare. Let us know what you need.
By signing this, your team agrees to participating in The Thing on April 27th and 28th, 2024 in Seattle. You also agree to pay the registration fee of $400 USD for your team.
