SQUID – 2023- Seattle Queer International Dodgeball Open

Event Description
Seattle Queer International Dodgeball (SQUID) Open is back for year two! This year we are doing it bigger and better. Join us in Seattle for our two day 7” Foam tournament that will be filled with competitive dodgeball, queer friends, fun events and meetups throughout the weekend.
The Venue – Academy Sports Center

The Academy Sports Center is a state of the art volleyball training facility with six full-size WDBF courts, lighting optimized for athletic competition, and vaulted ceilings to give even more room for incredible play.

Dates: Saturday, September 30th and Sunday, October 1st
Times: Subject to change. Saturday 9-4pm, Sunday 10-4pm

Early Bird Registration: $60/person; includes Day 1 & Day 2 play. Must register before June 15th. Use coupon code ‘EARLYBIRDSQUID’ to save $10 on regular registration.
Regular Registration: $70/person; includes Day 1 & Day 2 play.
Single Day Sign Up (Day 1) or (Day 2): $40/day
Five players needed to hold your team’s spot.
Player scholarships available for hardship.
Tournament Format:
Rules: USA Dodgeball Rules (USA Rule Modification: 7 players vs 7 players on the court)
Ball Type: 7″ Foam
Roster: Max size 9 players with 7 on the court.
Knockout: Round robin to determine seeds, followed by a single elimination bracket each day.
Refereeing: Each team will referee throughout the weekend. Teams will need to provide 4 players to ref during their assigned slots.
Day 1 – BYOT Divisions
Rainbow Division: Bring your own team. Teams should only include queer individuals and/or allies who identify as women.
Spectrum Division: Bring your own team. Teams should only include 4 cis-identifying queer males allowed on the court. The remaining players on the court should be made up of women (queer or ally) and non-cis identifying queers.
Day 2 – Remix Division
REMIX: Teams will randomly be assigned from all registrants.
*Teams may only register for one division at this time. Subject to change.
*During the round robin teams may play cross-division depending on brackets, standings, and tournament size.
*Free agents must join a team to play on Day 1. For free agents we’ll have a Facebook group to help you create a team.
Host Hotel:

Looking for a place to stay? We have you covered! The Sheraton Grand in downtown Seattle will serve as the host hotel. We have a room block set aside specifically for SQUID.

Free Agents:
Free agents will not be allowed to sign up individually for the BYOT portion of the tournament. We will be creating a google doc and Facebook thread to accommodate those looking for teams or who want to start their own team of free agents.
Allies:
While we always appreciate our allies, this tournament is a space primarily for our queer identifying folks. Please read the “tournament format” section for eligibility to participate.
Refunds:
Due to this tournament being primarily funded by participation sign ups and fees, no refunds will be allowed.
